The Stone of Fire

I received my copy from the publisher.

By: Geronimo Stilton

Cavemice series bk 1

Geronimo Stiltonoot is an ancient ancestor of Geronimo Stilton.

It appears that the most precious artefact, The Stone of Fire, has been stolen from the mouseum. Geronimo and his friend Hercule are on the trail of the stolen item. They track it down to Tiger Khan, the most ferocious leader of a band of nasty felines. It is up to them to retrieve the Stone and return it to it’s rightful place.

A new series that gives avid readers additional Geronimo books. The stone age take is a new angle and gives plenty of opportunity for speculation on history. There is still plenty of silliness and action in a series that sticks to the original format, plenty of colour and pictures.

Any series that can keep going this long and have so many spin off series’ is well worth a look.

Rumble in the Jungle

I received this copy from the publisher.

By: Geronimo Stilton

Geronimo Stilton series Bk 53

Geronimo’s friend Bruce Hyena is worried that Geronimo is too boring, so he arranges a trip for Geronimo to Brazil. He wants Geronimo to have the best adventure of his life, so his mousebook page can be updated with interesting pictures and stories. Geronimo reluctantly finds himself on a flight and in the hands of special tour guides. The problem is that by the time he touches down he is all by himself. Firstly he has to find a job to pay for his survival. Then he figures out where his guide might have ended up. Before long Geronimo finds himself traipsing through the jungle in the search for a crystal treasure that had been stolen from a native tribe. Will Geronimo find the hero within himself and become the brave adventurer that Bruce wants him to be?

A really fun addition where Geronimo is left to his own devices. As entertaining and action filled as always.

Mouse in Space

9780545481915By : Geronimo Stilton

Geronimo Stilton series book 52

Geronimo has done something that meant he has a special agent status. The only problem is Geronimo is more a fraidy mouse than a bravey mouse. In fact he’s just put in a whole new security system to protect himself. Geronimo is thrust into danger when an evil professor threatens his home with his horrible inventions. Geronimo is part of the team put together to thwart the professor’s plans, this means he has to prepare to go into space. Not a prospect Geronimo feels comfortable doing in any way, shape or form.

This is a hugely fun addition to the Geronimo series. It is a reading scheme series that stays strong with it’s fun and fast paced stories, short chapters and bright illustrations. Added to this is the facts sprinkled throughout that mean there is a little bit of an educational edge to these books.

I love the series. Highly recommended.

Thea Stilton & the Mystery on the Orient Express

I received my copy from the publisher

By: Thea Stilton

Thea Stilton cannot make her trip on the Orient Express, so she sends the Thea Sisters in her place. It isn’t just any journey, this time the train is being used to transport a precious wedding dress that is on it’s way back to Istanbul. Things are not so simple though as the dress has a history, it was stolen many years ago and now The Acrobat Thief has threatened to steal it on this trip. The Thea sisters are determined that this will not happen while they are around. Keeping their eyes open they follow clues and find out some surprising things along the way.

As always the Thea Sisters adventures are great fun. The added bonus as always are the snippets of factual information, that give these books an educational function, it’s okay don’t tell the kids. It’s nice to see such varied female characters as the sisters who are so good at being proactive. There is something in here for all types of girls and there really should be no reason why boys cannot get enjoyment out of these mysteries. The way it is written the glamour of the Orient Express comes through the whole story.

The Enormouse Pearl Heist

Geronimo Stilton series Book 51

Geronimo goes on a trip with beautiful Petunia, his nephew Ben and Aunt Sweetfur. Petunia is hoping Geronimo will get some time to relax and she sends him scuba diving. Geronimo isn’t very happy with this idea, even less so when he believes he has seen a huge blue fish. It turns out that Geronimo has made a find of the century – an enormous oyster. Geronimo has discovered the famous Eye of the Ocean. The problem with such a find is that someone may try to steal it.

Another fun adventure in the Geronimo series. These books are colourful, fun and full of action. The presentation of the text and the coloured illustrations are very appealing to children. As always this series is well worth a look.

Thea Stilton & the Star Castaways

By: Thea Stilton

The Thea sisters have been invited on a mission to the moon. They are the guests of billionaire business mouse, Napoleon Smith, who is trialling out his space travel agency to a small number of select guests. After going through some training and being in awe of the company they are in, the sisters soon realise there are things going on under the surface. Then a shuttle crashes and the robots in the moon resort start acting terribly. It looks as though Napoleon Smith’s dream of a hotel on the moon may not happen. It’s a good thing the Thea sisters are there, they have a knack for sorting out mysteries like this.

Another entertaining installment of the Thea Stilton series. The fun style of these stories is not the only reason they are so popular. Yes they are visually appealing but the stories are also engrossing and fun. As an added bonus there are little factoids thrown in along the way, to encourage learning as well as entertainment. These books are a good introduction to chapter books, though some readers may find the volume of text a little daunting, something I found to be balanced out by the shortness of the chapters and the very visual presentation.

Thea Stilton & the Mystery in Paris

By: Thea Stilton

The Thea sisters are on their way to Paris for a holiday. No adventure, no mystery, just good old fashioned rest and relaxation, though with Colette as their guide you can be assured of plenty of shopping. They even plan to attend a fashion show where Colette’s cousin Julie will be showing her designs.

After they arrive strange things start to happen. Julie’s designs are stolen and someone breaks into her flat and steals her computer. None of it makes any sense and the Thea sisters are once again thrust into a mystery, can they solve this one and help Julie get her show back on?

Fun and fashion in Paris, where else? These books are written in a way that younger readers will find engaging – visually interesting, filled with interesting little facts and five distinctive personalities. I have no trouble recommending these books. This one in particular will appeal to girls who, like Colette, likes clothes. It’s easy to enjoy to enjoy these books on the surface but they have a deeper theme of friendship and difference. Friends don’t needs to be the same or look the same, they also don’t always have to agree, they are always there for each other and this is a good thing for our children to be exposed to.
