The Hunt For the Golden Book

I received my copy from the publisher.

By: Geronimo Stilton

Part of the Geronimo Stilton Series

the-hunt-for-the-golden-book

It’s ten years since Geronimo published his first book and Grandfather William wants him to throw a high party to celebrate, and he wants a special book written for just this occasion. Geronimo isn’t so sure about any of this but tries to do what Grandfather William wants. It all goes horribly wrong though when his laptop is stolen and on it is the only copy of his very special book. Geronimo has to go to extraordinary lengths to get his computer and his manuscript back.

A fun special hardbound edition. The adventure is fast paced and full of all the silliness that is expected from a Geronimo Stilton book, and many familiar characters whom you love or hate. The format works though so why change it. It remains a good serious for those young ones just starting out on their chapter book reading journey. Ten years is a worthy cause to celebrate. This version also comes with a bonus mini Geronimo adventure.

Losing Reuben

I received this copy from the publisherlosing-reubenBy: Leonie Norrington & Beth Norling

Part of the Mates series

Rueben is one of nine children, every time the family goes anywhere his mum has to count them all to make sure no one gets left behind. Then there are ten, and the whole family goes down to the beach, to fish and relax. Reuben is now included in some of the things the bigger kids get to do, like fishing and mending nets, all this makes him feel a little different but he doesn’t know why. Then after a nap he wakes to discover his family have left without him, will he remember what to do?

This is a cute little story about family and getting bigger, about starting to take responsibility. With simple text and colour illustrations it is a perfect format for beginning readers. A wonderful story to share with children, Reuben is a very engaging character and this simple story arc will appear to the target audience.

Thea Stilton & the Legend of the Fire Flowers

9780545481885By: Thea Stilton

Thea Stilton series bk 15

Hawaii is a great spot for a holiday and a hula competition. The Thea Sisters are there for the latter, they are one of two teams representing Mouseford Academy and they are so excited. They are staying at a hotel really close to a volcano and although they have been reassured that there is no chance it will erupt their friend and scientist back home is calling them to warn them otherwise. The Thea Sisters use the time between competition to try and get to the bottom of what is really going on and along the way they save some rivals and make some new friends.

A wonderfully fun and colourful adventure from those favourites from the Stilton canon. These books continue to be great. The stories are fun, with educational snippets. Things move along at a cracking pace which is what you need when you are trying to encourage beginning readers to continue on the booky adventure with you. A strong reading scheme series that continues to delight.

The Lake Monster

9780545560191By: Geronimo Stilton

Mini Mysteries bk 2

A story breaks on the TV news and Geronimo’s grandfather tells him to get out and cover it. Geronimo isn’t too sure about trying to track down a lake monster but it’s part of his job so off he goes. As usual going with his family make things more complicated for Geronimo but that doesn’t make him any less determined to find out what is really going on with this Lake Monster. It turns out there is something of a mystery to be sorted out.

This is the second of the mini mystery books and it is a lot of fun.  A bit of a play on the Loch Ness monster makes for a good, action filled read. It is what you expect from these books and the smaller format is great for more reluctant readers.

I think these books are always fun.

The Super Scam

By: Geronimo Stilton

Mini Mysteries, book 1

A new Superstore has opened in New Mouse City. This is a very big deal and everyone is eager to go, especially Geronimo and his nephew Benjamin. It has a great gimmick, headphones for every shopper. Once inside though something happens that Geronimo can’t explain, he has to dance and buy everything he can get his paws on. He isn’t the only one. Geronimo has a feeling something isn’t right but will he be able to figure out in time just what is going on!

A new series with the ever popular Geronimo Stilton. The story itself is fun and moves at a fast pace. The characters and style of story will be familiar to Geronimo fans. This series is a smaller format than the other books, both in size and page numbers.  For those readers who just want something short to practice with, or for those who just struggle to read for any length of time this series is definitely worth looking at.

The Stone of Fire

I received my copy from the publisher.

9780545447744

By: Geronimo Stilton

Cavemice series bk 1

Geronimo Stiltonoot is an ancient ancestor of Geronimo Stilton.

It appears that the most precious artefact, The Stone of Fire, has been stolen from the mouseum. Geronimo and his friend Hercule are on the trail of the stolen item. They track it down to Tiger Khan, the most ferocious leader of a band of nasty felines. It is up to them to retrieve the Stone and return it to it’s rightful place.

A new series that gives avid readers additional Geronimo books. The stone age take is a new angle and gives plenty of opportunity for speculation on history. There is still plenty of silliness and action in a series that sticks to the original format, plenty of colour and pictures.

Any series that can keep going this long and have so many spin off series’ is well worth a look.

Rumble in the Jungle

Geronimo Stilton series Bk 53

Geronimo’s friend Bruce Hyena is worried that Geronimo is too boring, so he arranges a trip for Geronimo to Brazil. He wants Geronimo to have the best adventure of his life, so his mousebook page can be updated with interesting pictures and stories. Geronimo reluctantly finds himself on a flight and in the hands of special tour guides. The problem is that by the time he touches down he is all by himself. Firstly he has to find a job to pay for his survival. Then he figures out where his guide might have ended up. Before long Geronimo finds himself traipsing through the jungle in the search for a crystal treasure that had been stolen from a native tribe. Will Geronimo find the hero within himself and become the brave adventurer that Bruce wants him to be?

A really fun addition where Geronimo is left to his own devices. As entertaining and action filled as always.

Mouse in Space

9780545481915By : Geronimo Stilton

Geronimo Stilton series book 52

Geronimo has done something that meant he has a special agent status. The only problem is Geronimo is more a fraidy mouse than a bravey mouse. In fact he’s just put in a whole new security system to protect himself. Geronimo is thrust into danger when an evil professor threatens his home with his horrible inventions. Geronimo is part of the team put together to thwart the professor’s plans, this means he has to prepare to go into space. Not a prospect Geronimo feels comfortable doing in any way, shape or form.

This is a hugely fun addition to the Geronimo series. It is a reading scheme series that stays strong with it’s fun and fast paced stories, short chapters and bright illustrations. Added to this is the facts sprinkled throughout that mean there is a little bit of an educational edge to these books.

I love the series. Highly recommended.
