Reading With Your Child

A new clip from our Children’s Laureate Alison Lester. Reading with your kids can be fun and stories are a wonderful thing to share with children.

National Year of Reading 2012

It has now been launched – the National Year of Reading 2012.

This is a great thing. Of course for me personally I don’t need it to be a particular year for reading to be a great thing, though I am well aware of the fact that reading isn’t so vital so many as it is to me.

So in honour of this year here are a few related clips.

Further information about this can be found here.

Australian Children’s Laureates

A huge congratulations must go out to Australia’s Inaugural Children’s Laureates – Alison Lester and Boori Monty Pryor.

These wonderful writers will hold the position for 2012-2013 with a new Laureate announced in 2014.

It is wonderful that we have such amazing writers to fill such positions.

Alison Lester has a career spanning over 20 years as both writer and illustrator. For a complete list of her titles go here. She has been shortlisted for and won awards including the CBCA Picture Book of the Year and the Prime Minister’s Awards.

She has been quoted as saying, ‘Every child has a story to tell. I’m looking forward to continuing my work with kids and helping them to turn their stories into books.’

Boori Monty Pryor is a native North Queenslander, a descendant of the Kungganji and Kukuimudji. His books have been highly commended in many ways including the CBCA Awards, various Premier’s Awards and the Prime Minister’s Literary Awards. A list of his works can be found here. Boori writes about finding strength within to deal with the challenges without.

He has said that throughout his tenure he is looking forward to spreading ‘the write words to make ours a nation of readers!’

Once again a huge congrats to both of these fantastic children’s authors.

Noni The Pony

By: Alison Lester

Noni is a very friendly little pony. She lives on a farm overlooking the sea. Her very best friends are Dave Dog and Coco the Cat. Noni loves to prace and dance. She is very kind and loves to play.

This is a very cute little picture book with simple text and a wonderful little story about friends on a farm. This would be a great read for little kids who like animals and enjoy the pattern of rhymes. This story is accompanied by endearing illustrations. Noni is a very appealing little pony.
