Charmseekers book 1
Sesame Brown is a girl of passions, she cares about people and issues. She also likes shopping and one day on her way to meet her friend she somehow gets transported to the land of Karisma. That isn’t the only strange thing and more happens as she tries to figure out what is going on, Sesame takes it all in her stride. She meets strange creatures like the friendly tunanoras and the ghastly gribblers. There is trouble in Karisma though, Queen Charm’s special bracelet has gone missing. The charms have been scattered all over the land. If the charms aren’t found and the bracelet returned whole to the queen then things will get really bad. After finding the first piece Sesame Brown decides she is going to track the rest of it down, no matter how long it takes.
This is a cute little story, mixing modern life with a fantasy world. Sesame has pluck and her own kind of style. The plot is fairly simple but it’s execution make it a little more complex, with the story being told from multiple points of view. This is probably the easiest way to feed the readers all the information they need to know but it feels a bit clunky, and few books for this age do multiple view points. I also wonder if 13 books will prove to be a bit long. Having said all that, the story was rather fun and if you are looking for something for a girl (probably) who likes fantasy, adventure and jewelry then this series may well be worth looking at.
