Boris

By: Andrew Joyner

Boris lives in Hogs Bay with his mum and dad. Boris wants to travel all over the world and have adventures, he’s had enough of staying in one spot. He doesn’t see why the family can’t do these things because the bus that is his family home once did travel the world. His parents have their reasons though. Boris just wants to get out of Hogs Bay. Then one day he hears a loud bang and the bus begins to move. Boris is so excited, maybe he will finally get his big adventure. Sometimes adventures don’t turn out the way you expect though.

This is a bright and bold book, perfectly suited to young readers just beginning to get out of picture books. It’s size is like a chapter book and the text is simple. The layout is a combination of sentences under or between the illustrations, which have a cartoon-like feel about them and utilize dialogue bubbles. A style I am sure that will appeal to more reluctant readers as well as it makes it look similar to a comic.
