This is an anthology of short stories. It contains some characters you might be familiar with and plenty of new ones. Most of the stories are from her fantasy realms but two are more modern. All will satisfy your craving if you are a fan waiting for Mastiff (the third of the Beka Cooper books) like I am.
If you have never read Tamora Pierce before don’t let that stop you, these stories are all capable of standing alone. If you are looking for something for a more reluctant reader then this may be a good choice. Short stories may seem more manageable than a novel. These stories are full wonderful, intriguing and engaging characters, who make decisions, deal with the consequences and are willing to learn and grow along the way. They aren’t necessarily deep but if you don’t stop and wonder for a moment at least once, at parallels to our world or how we may need to look at our thinking, I will be a little surprised. Of course that could’ve just been me in a moment of introspection.
