Desert Rose

By: Alison Jackson

Illustrated By: Keith Graves

Desert Rose is a pig farmer and one morning she finds a shiny gold nugget. She decides to buy the fattest hog in all Texas. She ends up with a problem she never thought she’d have. So she asks for help from a coyote, a snake a cowboy, a horse and a cow. Her last chance is an armadillo with a whole lot of attitude. Will Rose ever get her hog to the State Fair in Laredo?

This is an entertaining story with very colourful language that just makes you want to put on an accent (though that just might be me). There is quite a lot of text for a picture book but also quite a bit of repetition to interact and have fun with. It is also accompanied by big colourful almost caricatured illustrations that suit the tone of the story perfectly.
